Since its founding in 1993, the Engineering Department staff of Wightman Ward, Inc. has provided both private and public sector clients with design expertise in the preparation and review of residential, commercial and industrial developments as well as public infrastructure improvements. Site Plan Preparation

Site Plans are commonly required for all commercial, industrial or multifamily developments. The Engineering Department staff of Wightman Ward, Inc. has extensive experience in this area and have successfully completed site plans for numerous clients with a wide range of design requirements, such as parking lot additions, major commercial and industrial developments, and townhouse and apartment complexes. Site plan drawings typically must follow stringent specifications required by various regulatory agencies to gain approval. Wightman Ward, Inc. stands ready to guide our clients through the entire process, from conceptual planning to final approval.

Storm Water Drainage System Design

Storm water control and disposal is a major component of any project. Wightman Ward, Inc. will work with our clients and any required regulatory agencies to determine a system that provides a cost effective and aesthetically acceptable plan meeting all environmental requirements. We have experience working with various types of systems involving ditching or piping storm water for ultimate disposal to detention or retention basins, municipal storm sewers, underground storage structures, or connection to natural water courses.

Road Design

Wightman Ward, Inc. staff has prepared numerous roadway design, primarily in conjunction with plat or condominium developments. We have also completed designs or roadway modifications to improve safety and alleviate drainage concerns. Roadway design standards are typically established by government agencies and our staff is intimately familiar with them and the options they afford. Within those guidelines, we endeavor to work with our clients to design a roadway system that meets their needs, be it a simple grid pattern to maximize access to available parcels of land, or curvilinear designs to create a more aesthetically pleasing layout and potentially preserve valuable natural site features.

Municipal Sanitary Sewer Design

As with roadways, sanitary sewer systems that are to connect to public systems must be designed to meet the requirements of both the local municipality and the State of Michigan. Our experienced staff has completed countless sanitary sewer system projects, including gravity flow systems and systems requiring lift stations and force mains. We will ensure that our designs meet all applicable standards and assist our clients in obtaining the required construction permits from the State of Michigan.

Municipal Water Main Design

Water mains, like sanitary sewer systems, must meet the requirements of the State of Michigan to obtain the permits necessary for construction. In addition to the State guidelines, local municipalities have their own requirements which must be met. The Engineering Department staff of Wightman Ward, Inc. are very familiar with these requirements and will strive to prepare a design meeting all appropriate parameters in a cost effective manner and will assist our clients in obtaining the required construction permits.
